Meet the Peas

Today I had all intentions of posting something crafty, but I should have known better.  You see Wednesday is never a good day in our household.  Wednesday happens to be the day we do our grocery shopping.   So in between rushing around like a mad woman to get everyone out the door, then dealing with wild baboons my children at the shops, coming home to unpack, and then rushing around AGAIN to get hubs off to work, nothing gets done.

So instead of a craft post I thought I’d introduce you all to my  wild baboons, 3 peas in a pod.

Lily is my first-born and, being the only girl, she’s also the princess of the family.  It’s hard to believe but my baby girl will be 11 this year! I mean really, where has time gone?

Lilybug (my favourite nickname for her) is the creative one in the bunch.  She has aspirations of being a famous artist and last year she came one step closer to realising her dream when she illustrated her very first book.  So proud of my girl :)

I have no idea where her ability to draw came from but it certainly wasn’t from me ( I can’t even draw a stick figure to save my life hehe)  Her drawing has improved in leaps and bounds in the last year and she is currently working on her very own book, which she will also illustrate.

Next up we have Joshua, the wild child with a soft side

This little munchkin is the true character of the family.  He is always making us laugh with his crazy antics and of course the things that he says.

Joshua always has to know what’s going on and likes to take centre stage…. a lot! And fear?  This child has NONE, which puts the fear of God in me big time.  I just know that when this 2-year-old grows up he’s going to be a stunt person or something similar and I’m almost positive we will becoming good friends with the local hospital.

Our last little pea is Oliver. ..

When Oliver was born we thought the nurses had swapped babies on us.   He really was the perfect baby and after having 2 crazy, loud, wild children we didn’t know how we ended up with such a placid, calm and happy bub.

He never cried, unless hungry, he slept really, really well and he was just a delight.  Not that Joshua and Lily weren’t, they were just more hard work :)

Of course having an older brother and sister means that Ollie wants to do what they do… and NOW!  He began crawling at 6 months, sat up and pulled himself up at 7 months and now it looks like it won’t be long until he walks.

So there you have it… the inspiration for this blog, my shop and all the crafty things I make.  When it came down to deciding on a name for my blog, how could I choose anything else?

Now, if only these 3 would start sleeping better so I can actually start posting “craft” stuff again :)

Found the Marbles

Updated Invites

I am like a kid in a candy store at the moment.  You see it’s only two weeks until my gorgeous little nephew turns 5!  And the even more exciting bit?  I get to celebrate his birthday with him for the first time in those 5 little years of his life.

Now it’s not like I have just ignored his previous birthday’s.  Seriously people, I love both my nephews as much as I love my own 3 kids.  But a little 1200kms kept me from attending any family celebrations :(

But in the middle of last year we relocated to Adelaide, where most of my family lives, so now I get to share in these special days, and boy oh boy am I excited about that prospect.

I made a few tweaks to the invitations and I think they look much better now.  If I had Photoshop they would totally rock but I have to make do without it, so these were all whipped up with a little help from Paint, Microsoft Publisher and Picnik (Is anyone else dreading the thought of those pesky little ants taking away THE BEST, and most user-friendly, photo editing program ever?)

I suggested that my sister put these in VIP pit pass holders but after searching the internet for hours upon hours we couldn’t find any.  And the few that we did find were plain and overly priced.  Then on a whim I did a search on Ebay and “kapow” (sorry, just had to throw in a little Lightning McQueen reference) and I found these beauties :)

I can’t wait to get my hands on them! I think they are currently somewhere over the ocean….. somewhere?  Ha ha I was never good at Geography in school.  But I do know we had to import them from the good ol’ USA.   Why is it America has some of THE coolest stuff on the planet?  And it’s all cheap!  Lord help me if I ever visit some day.. I am telling you I will need to hire a boat just to bring all the awesome stuff I buy home!

Once they arrive all I need to do is resize the invitations to fit as snug as a bug in a rug and then we get to post them out.  And let me tell you, if I was one of the kids invited to this party I would get excited as soon as I saw the invite.  It kinda screams “awesome party ahead”.

Biased?   Me?  Never! :)

Now I should probably get started on some of the decorations for the rest of the party.  I promise I’ll post more pictures as soon as I finish, and I might just throw in a little tutorial.

Wow, blogging for a week and I’m already game to tackle a tute.  There’s no stopping this little chicky once she gets started, I tells ya :)

A Neglected Shop and Some Skinny Notepads

A Neglected Shop and Some Skinny Notepads

Yep, that’s right people.  I have neglected something else for far too long.

You see, I set up my Etsy shop at the same time I set up this blog.  I had the best intentions to stock it with lovely handcrafted items, but of course, that never happened.

But since my blog is all systems go, I decided to jump on the Etsy band wagon and give it a go.  Can’t hurt, right?

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get a few hours of uninterrupted crafting time, while my other half amused the kids.  So I put it to good use and whipped up some skinny notepads.

These are easy to do and great for using up scraps of paper. ( Puh-lease tell me I’m not the only one with a scrap pile bigger than my designer paper pile!)

I was lucky enough to find a local discount store that stocks packs of 6 skinny notepads for $2.00.  Talk about bargain :)   And I already had the cardstock and of course the never-ending pile of paper.

Not only am I selling these in my Etsy shop, they will also be sold at an upcoming craft fair (my first one!) but more on that later.

So if you like what you see, leave me a comment, or head on over to my shop.

Hope your all having a great weekend and, like me, got to do at least a little crafting :)

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas?

I know, I know.  Christmas was almost a month ago, but I just had to share these cute little guys.

I never used to be a big fan of Christmas.  The shopping, the crowds, the attitudes of said shoppers…. just made Christmas feel, well, not like Christmas.

But the past couple of years I have brought the Christmas spirit back to our house in a BIG way.  I plan for months ahead, try to make decorations, buy endless decorations to add to the Mount Everest looking pile of decorations we already have…. I have become Christmas obsessed!

So one day while browsing for quick, easy and super cute things to make on pinterest.com I came across these adorable fellas.  Needless to say within seconds I had already picked out a spot for them on the mantle, piled the kids in the car and was off to grab the supplies.

Like I said these are super easy to make, keep the kids occupied for a few precious moments and best of all, you’ve probably got everything at home already.  (No cute, patterned socks in this household, unfortunately!)

If you want to make yourself a snowman/woman/family  pop on over to http://www.thenshemade.com/2011/01/sock-snowmen.html

Amy over at Then She Made has the best tutorial.  And I can almost guarantee once you’ve had a look at the snowman you’ll be taking a peek at her other tutorials.

I know I’ll be adding to the newly created “Snow” family this Christmas.  Maybe I’ll even get into decorating for Valentine’s Day this year and break out some special V-Day snowies :)

And so she blogs…..

And so she blogs…..

I am a procrastinator. No, seriously I am.

Normally I am so organised and have everything together…. except when it comes to this blog.

See I have had this here little blog for, um, about a year and I am only just publishing my first post.

Say it with me peeps, pro- cras- ti- nator! :)

It’s not like I haven’t written posts before.  Cause I have.  Heaps of them, in fact.  But I always found something wrong with them.  Or the kids cried.  Or I got thirsty. :)

And then I read something on Pinterest.  I don’t remember how it went exactly (and many hours procrastinating, ahem, researching) I still can’t find it.  But the jist of it was this…. stop waiting for the perfect time, it never comes.

And then it hit me.  Like a tonne of bricks.  I’m never going to find “the perfect” words to say, or the perfect time to post.  This is life.  REAL life.  And I’m pretty dang sure that if your life’s anything like mine, it’s far from perfect. And if your anything like me, you’re not perfect either.  But that’s a good thing :)

So here I am, in front of the computer, typing away while I listen to my kids play and watch the Simpsons.  And if your still reading…. thankyou :)

Ok, my blog.  What is it about?  Well I love to make anything to do with paper.  I scrapbook, I alter everyday items to make them pretty, and I have just started my own business making gifts and the like out of, you guessed it…..paper.

This here little blog is to showcase what I do, have tutorials from time to time and hopefully, in time, it’ll become a resource for other paper-crafter.

The first thing I wanted to show you are the invitations I designed for my nephew Anthony’s 5th birthday.  I’ve kind of become the “designated party planner” in my family.  I loves me a good party.  And luckily I love to design and decorate said parties even more.

So when my sister asked me to help her put together a Disney Cars themed party, I was all hands on deck.  We went searching on the web for ideas and inspiration and once we had found some things we liked I began working on them.

Now normally I would create invitations the old-fashioned way.  On paper.  Using pretty embellishments etc and only rely on the computer to print out the details of the party.  But my sister came across the cutest invitations with a not so cute price tag.  So for the first time in my life I delved into the deep, dark, depths of digital design….. and made these.

Now they are far from perfect, but so am I.  And remember I have NEVER done this kind of designing before.  I AM NOT a graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination but I am pretty dang proud of them.  And my sister, well she loves them, and that’s all that matters.

I still have to put some finishing touches on them, resize them and print them out but I am totally excited with how they turned out.  Can you tell :)   And all without Photoshop!  But more on that later.

So there we have it.  The first of many, many (imperfect haha) posts.  If you like what you see, then why not stick around.  I have a whole lot more in store and I promise I won’t wait another year before my next post :)
